Our program is a financial wellness journey to help women regain control of their finances, rebuild after hardship, and create a sustainable plan for real-life challenges. Powered by PAW, our community service program is designed by women, for women, with a focus on real goals and overcoming obstacles.

Focus: Life, health, and disability insurance basics + local financial assistance programs.
Month 3 — Widowhood & Transition Planning
Theme: Navigating Finances After Loss
Focus: Managing finances after the loss of a partner and understanding available benefits.
SEASON 2: STABILITY & SURVIVAL TOOLS
Months 4–6
Developing skills to stabilize, organize, and manage immediate needs.
Month 4 — Medical Bills & Credit
Theme: Fighting Back Without Falling Apart
Focus: Reducing medical bills, negotiating balances, and protecting your credit.

Who can join this program?

This program is for women who are rebuilding, restarting, or navigating a difficult financial season. Whether you’re recovering from loss, adjusting to life changes, or simply trying to get your finances under control, you are welcome here.

3. Do I have to attend every month?

Attendance is encouraged, but we understand life happens. Come as consistently as you can. Each month builds on the next, but every session stands alone so you can jump back in without falling behind.

How long is the program?

Budgeting Through the Battle runs for 10 months, from January to October, with a Completion Luncheon in November to celebrate the journey and your growth.

Can I join after the program has already started?

Yes. Enrollment remains open throughout the year, though we encourage early participation so you can receive the full transformation experience.

Will there be homework or assignments?

Nothing heavy. You’ll receive simple monthly actions and reflection prompts to help you apply what you learned. This is about real life, not perfection.

What if I need extra support beyond budgeting?

PAW partners with local organizations who provide housing resources, employment support, mental health services, and more. We’ll help connect you to additional support where needed.

Is the program really free?

Yes. 100% free.
Budgeting Through the Battle is powered by PAW and supported by our community partners. There is no cost to attend any session.

Where will the sessions be held?

Most sessions will be held in person within Newport News and Hampton Roads. Any location changes or virtual options will be announced in advance.

What should I bring to the sessions?

Bring a notebook, your current bills or budgeting materials (if you’re comfortable), and an open mindset. We’ll provide worksheets, tools, and resources each month.

Are children allowed at sessions?

We love children — but for the sake of your focus and emotional space, sessions are designed for adults only unless otherwise stated.

How do I sign up to speak or volunteer?

Do I need to be a PAW member to participate?

Not at all. Budgeting Through the Battle is open to all women in the community. Membership is optional and not required.
